Lot Essay

This pair of upholstered chairs can be associated with an invoice from Gomm, dated 23 February 1764 and described as, '10 Mahogy Stuff Back & Seat Chairframes for Bordering. For the Chapell @ 12 - -- £6 8 do -- £4 16 2 Stuff Back & Seat Arm Chairs do @ 20 - -- £2'
The ten chairs in the chapel were sold by Lord Leigh, in these Rooms, 15 October 1981, lot 98. This pair are presumably part of the '8 ditto' which cost £4 16.
