Lot Essay

The lead lot represents a bouquet of flowers in Vuillard's room at the Château des Clayes, the Hessels' country home near Versailles, where he spent a great deal of time. Jos Hessel was Vuillard's art dealer and good friend for nearly 40 years.
The authenticity of these works has kindly been confirmed by Mr Antoine Salomon.
