The curvaceous lines of this splendid table are characteristic of 18th Century Portuguese rococo and give it an almost lifelike character.
A related side table with conformingly-shaped apron and sides is illustrated in F. Castro Freire, G. Pedroso & R. Pereira Henriques, Mobiliário, vol. II, Lisbon, 2002, p. 169; and a further related table is reproduced in A. Guimarâes, Mobiliário Artístico Português, 1935, fig.119.
