Lot Essay

The boldly carved scrolling ornament of these striking tables which may originally have been stands, is typical of the vigorous work of Sicilian carvers at the end of the 17th Century. Related Sicilian tables and stands are illustrated in E. Colle, Il Mobile Barocco in Italia, Milan, 2000, pp.40-43.
