Lot Essay

Hamilton was sent by his father, an assistant to Robert Adam (1728-1792), to study in Rome under Antonio Zucchi, A.R.A. (1726-1795), until 1769. He subsequently returned to London and entered the Royal Academy Schools. He was elected Royal Academician in 1774.
