DATED: MAY 1883, THE OKLAD AND DEDICATION WITH MARKS OF IVAN FEDOROV ANDREEV, 1883-1896
Christ on the summit of Mount Tabor, wearing a white, shimmering himation, golden light radiating from his body, the half figures of Prophet Elijah and the Patriarch Moses appearing from the clouds, holding a scroll and the Tablets of the Law respectively, in the earthly realm the three Apostles represented at the foot of the mountain, to the left John and Jacob asleep, to the right Peter kneeling on one leg and looking upwards in bewilderment, a piece of rock-relic from Mount Tabor encased in the panel, the celestial plane rendered with pastel and bright colours, distinctively contrasting with the deeper shades employed for depicting the solid, terrestrial landscape and human figures, the icon supplemented by a silver - gilt oklad, the spandrels with enamel decoration, the title of the represented event written in Greek in champlevé enamel on the applied plaque at the lower border of the icon, the reverse bearing a silver plate inscribed with the dedication in Greek in blue champlevé enamel

The presentation inscription reads: By the mercy of God, on this day of the holy coronation and anointing of their Majesties the Emperor of all the Russians Alexander III and the Empress Maria Feodorovna. This icon of the Transfiguration of the Saviour with a stone from Mount Tabor is presented with deep respect by the reverend Archbishop of Mount Tabor Nicodemos, on May 1883.
