A MAGNIFICENT FINELY CARVED SPINACH-GREEN JADE BRUSHPOT
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The cylindrical brushpot intricately carved in deep relief with a continuous scene depicting the Four Noble Professions, including an old man with a young child seated on a boat catching fish beneath an overhanging pine tree, peasants carrying bundles of sticks up a mountain pass, a boy riding a buffalo followed by the farmer with a hoe on his shoulder waving to a lady and child behind them, and a scholar reading in a pavilion accompanied by assistants preparing tea, the stone of a rich slightly mottled spinach-green tone
