A cinnabar lacquer circular lobed box and cover, Qianlong (1736-1795)
carved in the form of a chrysanthemum blossom, the cover with a central blossom radiating triangular shaped petals enclosing chrysanthemum sprays, encircled by roundels with floral sprays including peony, chrysanthemum, wisteria, prunus, cherry and hibiscus, the sides with rectangular panels enclosing scenes of fishermen, a musician, scholars and pagodas in mountainous river landscapes, all reserved on a leiwen ground, with geometric patterns above the foot, the interior and base black lacquered -- 11¾in. (29.8cm.) diam.
