A large cinnabar lacquer lobed jardiniere, 19th century
with deep slightly flared lobed sides rising to the flattened rim, supported on bracket feet, each lobe carved with a quatrefoil cartouche enclosing scenes including dignitaries, equestrian and foot soldiers, scholars playing weiqi, a soldier before a man bound to a post, and an equestrian and an archer looking at fortifications, all in a mountainous river landscape and reserved on a foliate lotus scroll ground, the rim and the feet with key-fret patterns -- 18¾in. (47.6cm.) diam., wood stand.
