A lacquered wood head of a Luohan, 14th/15th century
the well carved head with black coloured eyes gazing forward below the raised eyebrows and forehead, with high cheekbones, prominent nose, red painted lips clenched together and pendulous earlobes, the reverse naturalistically carved with the nape of the neck -- 10¾in. (27.3cm.) high, stand.
