embroidered with a five toed, front facing dragon among five coloured cloud scrolls, the borders with Bhuddist emblems and a sacred fungus above his head

Lot Essay

This roundel would have been one of four roundels on an Imperial surcoat. It does not bear any Symbol of Imperial Authority and so was probably worn by a high ranking member of the Imperial family rather than the Emperor himself.
