Lot Essay
Comparable Zhengde yellow-glazed dishes of this unusually large size include one which is illustrated in the Asia Society Handbook of the Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection, p. 79 (lower right); and another from the Collection of Mrs. James Alsdorf, sold in these Rooms, 23 March 1993, lot 732. Dishes of smaller size are more commonly found, such as the example from the Eli Lilly Collection, Indianapolis Museum of Art, illustrated in the Catalogue, 1983, no. 98; and another illustrated by J. Ayers, Chinese Ceramics: The Koger Collection, London, 1985, no. 69.
