The flattened top surface of the fan-shaped box deeply carved with an idyllic lakeside scene with a bridge and sheltered walkways on which numerous children play either lighting fireworks, blowing a horn, beating a drum, or carrying either a parasol, a lantern or a puppet, while two men look on, all framed by pine and other trees and craggy rocks, with a key-fret band around the edge, the sides of the box and cover with a dense floral-cell pattern, the base and interior lacquered black
