Lot Essay

Christian Ernst was the 10th child of Count Ludwig Christian zu Stolberg-Gedern with his second wife Princess Christine of Mecklenburg-Güstrow. He ruled the County of Wernigerode (in Saxe-Anhalt) from 1710 to 1771. In 1714 he had to acknowledge the dependency of his lands from Brandenburg-Prussia. From 1735 to 1745 he was councillor to King Christian VI of Denmark. In 1712 he married Sophie Charlotte Countess zu Leiningen-Westerburg with whom he had a son, Heinrich Ernst Count zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (1716-1778).
