Lot Essay

The present miniature is inspired by the 1777 portrait by Roslin, engraved by Gavril Skorodumov. It is likely that this miniature was copied after a black and white engraving and that the colour of the sash of the Imperial Order of St. Andrew was not recognised as blue.
