Lot Essay

Née de la Gardie, the sitter was married to the Swedish, later Russian, general of infantry Count Gustav Maksimovich Armfeld; she was appointed lady-in-waiting in 1811, awarded the Order of St. Catherine in 1814, and died in Stockholm in 1832.
