Lot Essay

Studied at the Naval College in 1795 and enrolled in the Semenovskii regiment in 1804, he was present at the battle of Austerlitz in 1805 after which he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir (4th class). Promoted staff-captain, he was present during the 1812 campaign and the 1813-14 campaigns in Poland and Germany. After the battle of Leipzig, he was awarded the Order of St. Anne (1st class) and after the Taking of Paris, St. George (3rd class) and promoted to adjutant-general. In 1826 he became lieutenant-general and the following year appointed military governor of Tiflis (Tbilisi).
