Lot Essay

The artist was born a serf at Ostankino on the estates of Count N. P. Sheremet'ev, studied under N. I. Argunov, and was liberated in 1818. His works are to be found in the Hermitage and the Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, in the Historical Museum, the Pushkin Museum and at Ostankino in Moscow.
