FIVE GREEK AND ROMAN GARNET RING STONES
CIRCA 2ND-1ST CENTURY B.C.
One Roman, circa 1st century B.C., engraved with Jupiter upon his eagle, the god holding a thunderbolt and a staff, the eagle with its wings outstretched, its head turned back, holding a wreath and a palm branch in its talons; one Greek, circa 2nd century B.C., engraved with Herakles standing, his body frontal, his head in profile, his club and lion skin in one hand, the other extending forward, on a groundline; one Roman, circa 1st century B.C., engraved with a youthful hunter, depicted nude, holding a spear and perhaps a fillet, the forepart of a horse behind him, a dog seated before him, on a groundline; one Roman, circa 1st century B.C., engraved with Artemis, depicted nude, standing with her back exposed, her head in profile, leaning on a column, a quiver and bow over her shoulder, an arrow in her hand, on a groundline; and one Greek, circa 2nd century B.C., engraved with Eros seated on a rock, playing a lyre, his quiver and bow below
