A PAESTAN RED-FIGURED BELL-KRATER
ATTRIBUTED TO THE PAINTER OF NAPLES 2585, CIRCA 325-300 B.C.
The obverse with a female figure and a youth, the female seated on a tendril before an altar, nude but for a mantle draped loosely around her hips and covering her legs, bejewelled, holding a mirror before her face in her right hand, a fillet in her left, the nude youth leaning forward, his left foot raised, resting on a tendril, a phiale in his left hand, an egg in his outstretched right; the reverse with a draped female figure moving to the right and looking back, holding a phiale and a tympanum in her right hand, a fillet in her left, an altar before her; a band of wave encircling below the scenes, laurel below the rim, palmettes below the handles, tendrils on either side of the handles, details in added white
