Of gray-streaked marble, his oval face with pronounced, rounded cheekbones, a slender nose and parted lips, his unarticulated eyes sunken and narrow, with heavy upper lids and smooth, modelled brows, his hair receding at the center, with coarse, curving locks splaying along either side of a thick central lock combed forward at the peak of his high forehead, the locks defined by deeply cut channels, the ears prominent
