Lot Essay

La tela deriva dalla Cena in Emmaus (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum), riferita dubitativamente da Nicolson ad artista nord italiano tra Serodine e Terbrugghen. Il rimando all'artista olandese si spiega con il fatto che la composizione di questa tela è ispirata alla Cena in Emmaus conservata nel Museo d'Arte di Toledo (Ohio), apparentemente firmata e datata 1616 da Hendrich Terbrugghen, ma sulla quale lo stesso Nicolson avanzava qualche perplessità attributiva (Cfr. B. Nicolson, Caravaggism in Europe, Torino, 1989, III, fig. 1125).
