OBJETS PROVENANT DE LA COLLECTION DE PAUL STOVER WINGERT CES LOTS SONT PROPOSES SANS PRIX DE RESERVE Paul Stover Wingert (1900-1974) Le nom de Paul Wingert est bien connu des collectionneurs d'art non-occidental de par sa longue et distinguée carrière en tant que conservateur d'expositions et comme écrivain d'une impressionnante et vaste bibliographie reflétant sa grande connaissance des arts du Pacifique, d'Afrique et d'Amérique du nord. Parmi ces nombreux titres connus on peut citer Art of the South Pacific Islands (1953), African Negro Sculpture (1948), American Indian Sculpture, a Study of the Northwest Coast (1949), et Primitive Art. Its traditions and Styles (1965). Paul Wingert obtint son BA, MA et PhD à l'université de Columbia et fut professeur au sein du département des Arts et Archéologie jusqu'à sa retraite en 1964. C'est aussi à Columbia qu'il rencontra sa femme, Emily. Tous les deux formèrent une impressionnante collection d'art non-occidental. Un certain nombre d'objets furent donnés au Montclair College en 1986 et présentés en 1989 lors de l'exposition African and Oceanic art from the Wingert collection.
