Accompanied by an Omega Missions white space suit cloth-covered suitcase, a plastic encased diplay movement, Certificate, International Warranty, booklet on the 22 highlighted missions, loupe and manual.
In 1998 Omega created the Speedmaster Missions Collection as a tribute to the legendary "Speedmaster Professional", which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1997.
The present collection represents number 1 in a limited edition of 40 sets produced for commercial sale including all 22 of the "Missions" wristwatches and a replica of the original 1957 Speedmaster with black matte dial. In total, Omega manufactured 50 of these sets, including 10 for non-commercial use with 5 sets for "Out-of-Business" and 5 "Artist's Proof" examples.
By 1978 the "Speedmaster" had become part of the standard equipment for astronauts and cosmonauts during their time in space. This model was worn at important missions such as the Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon as well as its instrumental use in the timing of reentry for the almost disastrous Apollo 13 flight.
The present collection features emblems of famed space missions from 1965 to 1973. The "Speedmaster" wristwatch remains to this day an important timekeeper for NASA and was also tested aboard the Russian space station MIR during the early 1990s.
