A.296 nickel-finished lever movement, 19 jewels, superbalance timed in 6 positions, the gilt matte dial with applied dagger numerals and outer 1/5th minute divisions, luminous gold alpha hands, centre seconds, aperture for date in red, in tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case with milled bezel, "Super-Oyster" crown and screw back, together with an 18k gold Rolex buckle, case, dial and movement signed

This model is equipped with the very rare "Super-Oyster" winding crown, a mechanism developed by Rolex in an attempt to create a non-screw-down waterproof crown. The system itself proved to be a success, however, in time the rubber gasket was unable to withstand wear and tear. This crown type was phased out only after three years of production.
