Lot Essay

The knot count is 26H x 21V per square inch.

This carpet was woven in commemoration of the end of the first world war. Each of the eleven portraits represents a leader of the Central Powers and the Allied forces with their National flag. At the top, King George V is depicted alongside Queen Mary beneath the words "War Eclipse". An identical rug signed by Hajji Mir 'Ali Kirmani, was sold in London at Christie's, 14 October 2004, lot 77.
