Lot Essay

Wings premièred in New York in August, 1927 and went on general release in 1928. It has the distinction of being the first film to win an Academy Award at the first ceremony in 1928 and was phenomenally successful playing continuously throughout 1930.

During this time Paramount decided to add sound to the film to cash in on the new phenomenon of Sound Pictures, triggered by the release of the first sound film, The Jazz Singer in October, 1927. The poster offered here was created for the sound version.
