BONAPARTE, Napoleon (1769-1821). Letter signed ("Nap."), as Emperor of France, to Eughne de Beauharnais (1781-1824), his step-son, Fontainbleu, 20 October 1810. 1 page, 4to, matted and framed alongside a portrait of Napoleon. Not examined out of frame.
NAPOLEON, ON THE PRICE OF GRAIN. The Emperor writes his son Eugene, who was then serving as Viceroy of Italy. "My son, I have received yours from Remini of October 3. Perhaps the difference in the price of grain between the different royal Departments of Italy is due to the different amounts of money available in the departments?" Eugene, Josephine's son from her earlier marriage, was given the post of Viceroy and Prince of Venice, but enjoyed no rights to succeed Napoleon as Emperor of France. He served with Napoleon during the Egyptian and Italian campaigns, and led the battered remnants of his step-father's forces back to France after the disastrous Russian campaign.
