4o (261 x 185 mm). 2 folding maps, one folding albumen print. Contemporary brown cloth, possibly publisher's and for presentation, decorated in blind, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in two, board edges and turn-ins decorated with gilt flower roll, all edges gilt (re-backed preserving the contemporary spine).

FIRST EDITION. The display of Colorado Ore was awarded a Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition in 1867, where a display of raw materials from the nations of the world formed the central zone of the eliptically shaped building designed to make the exhibition truly an exposition universelle. EXTREMELY RARE: according to American Book Prices Current only one copy, in original wrappers, has appeared at auction in the last thirty years: Sold California Book Auctions, 14 February 1991, lot 187.
