8o (171 x 107 mm). (Some spotting.) Contemporary black morocco, gilt borders of double fillet surrounding an inner border of single fillet with stylized fleur-de-lis tools at each outside corner, in the center a fine large gilt block of the arms of Comte de Chambord, pretender King Henri V of France, duc de Bordeaux, spine ruled in five compartments, gilt-lettered in one, the others decorated with stylized fleur-de-lis tools, board edges with dot roll, turn-ins with border of leaf and tendril roll, and double fillet, moiréed endpapers, all edges gilt concealing a fore-edge painting of the gardens of the Palais de Luxumbourg. Provenance: Comte de Chambord (1820-1883, binding, bookplate, library stamp); Don Jaime de Bourbon, duc de Madrid (library stamp on the title-page).

Henri, Comte de Chambord was briefly King of France from the 2-9 August 1830 after the almost simultaneous abdication of his grandfather Charles X and uncle, and before the National Assembly decreed that the throne should pass to his distant cousin Louis-Philippe.
