8o (161 x 100 mm). Title-page printed in blue and red, half-title and verso of title-page printed in blue, 4 hand-colored etched plates by John Leech, 4 wood engravings in the text by W. J. Linton after Leech. Original gilt and blind decorated rose-brown cloth, yellow endpapers, all edges gilt (spine a bit cocked, faded and chipped with loss at the head).
'Ninth Edition', but more accurately a later issue of the first edition, and the last to be bound in familiar rose-brown cloth, the blue ink of the title-page etc., slightly paler than in previous issues as usual. Eckel, p. 110; Sadleir 684; Smith II:4.
