8o (211 x 145 mm). Chaucer type printed in red and black, woodcut frontispiece after a design by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, two full and one three-quarter borders, three- and ten-line initials. Near contemporary blue levant morocco, covers with double gilt and blind ruled borders enclosing an elaborate gilt design of intertwined swirling stem and leaf decoration, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in two, the others decorated with an ethereal pattern of gilt tracery and dots, board edges with single gilt rule, turn-ins with double gilt and blind ruled borders, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, lower edges uncut, by SARAH PRIDEAUX (joints just touched, some offsetting to the endpapers from the turn-ins); quarter blue morocco gilt slipcase. LIMITED EDITION, one of 350 copies on paper of an edition of 358. A charming binding to a Prideaux design, but by this date probably executed by a trade binder as Marianne Tidcombe has shown. Peterson A33; Tidcombe Women Binders p.109.
