Lot Essay

Barker states,' In the 80s I was reading about how beautiful Elizabeth of York was and how she was married to Henry VII. She had long been used as the role model for the Queen of Hearts. I did one of her, then I did a few and eventually I just continued on and did the full pack of cards. There are a number of styles in the pack and I particuarly like the aces and jokers' (Clive Barker, private correspondence, 31st October 2007).
