A LATE 17TH CENTURY SILVER OVAL SPICE BOX,
MARK OF WF CROWNED, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1685/90,
Maker's mark only struck once inside body, squeeze-action opening by means of an oval boss on either side, engraved with a putto amidst scrolling foliage on cover, the foliage repeated to base & a band of foliate lozenges around sides, 2 1/8 in. long (5.4 cm.), ALSO a late 17th century silver-mounted tortoiseshell snuff box, unmarked, circa 1685, with pinned-on acanthus leaf lappets bordering cover & base, push-button opening at front, 3 5/8 in. long (9.2 cm.).
