Lot Essay

Such decorative jardinieres were usually 'planted' with a coral or a hardstone tree and were found in various rooms of the Forbidden City and other Imperial Palaces.
See an example of such jardiniere also supported by three kneeling figures and decorated with identical floral panels on a red ground, sold in our London Rooms, 16 December 1996, lot 132.
