De forme évasée, composées de divers registres à décor de pétales, volutes stylisées et ruyi ou lotus et rinceaux feuillagés, la corniche portant la marque incisée à quatre caractères de l'Empereur Qianlong dans un cartouche et rehaussée d'une balustrade à décor ajouré de svastikas, les diffuseurs de parfum remplacés par des pieds de lampes entourés d'un cordage en laiton ; les bases remplacés et percées pour le montage en lampe

Lot Essay

Such monumental stands were meant to support pagoda parfumiers. These latter were intended as part of the furnishing in the Palace, flanking the throne together with various tripod incense burners. Several examples of such pagodas in cloisonné enamel or entirely in bronze are illustrated in the Catalogue, The Forbidden City, Palace Museum, Beijing, 1993 : pl.52 shows a pair of pagodas with champlevé and cloisonné enamel decoration in the Palace of Heavenly Purity; pl. 85, a smaller cloisonné enamel pair in the main room of the Palace of Concentrated Beauty; and pl. 106 with another large pair of bronze and gilt-bronze pagodas in the Hall of Mental Cultivation.
