Orné au centre d'un médaillon décoré de trois chimères se poursuivant l'une l'autre tout en jouant avec une perle et des rubans, la bordure agrémentée de quatre branchages de fruits et fleurs dans des cartouches réservés sur fond de nuages, le revers et la base ornés de rinceaux feuillagés et lotus épanouis ou en boutons

Lot Essay

The decorative motifs on the present dish are boldly executed and it is rare to find Buddhist lions as the main elements to the central medallion. Compare with the more stylised gamboling lions in pursuit of brocade balls enamelled on the exterior of a bowl dated to the Jingtai period, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Zhongguo Meishu Quanji. vol. 10, no. 301.
