PROVENANCE

Grand Duke Michael of Russia (1878-1918), the brother of Tsar Nicholas II, leased Keele Hall in Staffordshire in 1900 and came to live there in 1901. On Tuesday March 1st 1910, he and his family left Keele Hall for the last time via Newcastle Station for their new home at Kenwood, London. The travel arrangements were made by William Holbrook, the Station Master at Newcastle- under-Lyme, and for this service he was awarded a diamond and ruby stickpin which was passed down through his family and eventually transformed into a pendant
