Of campana shape, each with a foliate-cast rim, the waisted body flanked by ram's heads, the foliate-wrapped base above a waisted neck, above a stepped ormolu base and a white marble square socle

These elegant beau-bleu porcelain vases, flanked by finely-chased rams' heads relate to a pair mounted with satyr's masks attributed to the celebrated bronzier-ciseleur Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), and sold from the Collection of the Late Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild, Christie's, London, 14 December 2000, lot 2. This pair was made circa 1785, shortly after Thomire took over Jean-Claude Duplessis's role as artistic director of the Sèvres porcelain manufactory, thus becoming responsible for designing and fitting the gilt-bronze mounts for the manufacture.

A virtually identical pair of vases was sold at Drouot Montaigne, 31 May 2001, lot 35, and a further related pair of blued steel vases cast with ram's heads was sold at Sotheby's, New York, 25 April 1998, lot 213.
