Lot Essay

This ring was commissioned from Cartier by Major Maharajkumar Mahijit Singh of Kapurthala (1893-1932), the second son of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala, for his wife Rani Anar Devi Sahiba. It was originally intended as a signet ring, which was later resized and the French assay mark and maker's mark were lost. The ring was bought from the family circa 1970.
For the jewellery from the collection of Anita Delgado (1890-1962), fifth wife of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala, see lots 201 to 208 in this sale.
