Lot Essay

This is a particularly unusual style of painting which was developed in the early part of the 19th century at the Berlin factory. The bold palette and ornament was designed to imitate maiolica. The 'hidden' initials and markings on the underside of the socle and base exist on other similar pieces, although the artist has remained untraceable.
