Lot Essay

The present model is based on a copy of a 1744-5 pastel by the Swiss miniaturist, Jean-Etienne Liotard (1702-1789) at the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden. The copy by the Meissen painter Frenzel was originally intended as a source to be copied onto Meissen plaques.
