A group of thirteen wood netsuke, 19th and 20th century
of a beauty carrying a branch of wisteria over her shoulder, a young samurai with a bird of prey at her feet, s. Yasunobu; Fukurokuju beside a deer holding a scroll, s. Shominsai; Choryo reading from a roll of manuscript that Kosekiko seated on his horse has given him, s. Chikusai; a kappa next to an upside down turned lotus leaf and a small frog, s. Minkoku; another of a similar subject; a tortoise resting in its shell; a rabbit gazing up above; a man seated astride a carp; seven immortals beneath a bamboo grove; an angry beast, eyes inlaid; and three okimono netsuke: a frog, eyes inlaid; Okame giggling as she sits revealingly; and a hunter, gun in hand, carrying a dead monkey and bird on his back, next to him his dog with an owl in its jaw, s. Yoshimasa, details in ivory -- the first 1 7/8in. (4.8cm.) high. (13)
