Lot Essay
The salver, designed in George II French 'picturesque' fashion, evokes love's triumph and is engraved with an armorial cartouche wreathed by an antique-stippled border of flower-festooned and asymetrically scrolled reeds; while its scalloped and everted rim is antique-fretted in Vitruvian wave-scrolls that are also banded by foliated reeds.
