Shaped circular and on three openwork scroll feet, with an openwork Vitruvian scroll and foliage border, engraved with a coat-of-arms within a bird and rocaille cartouche and surrounded by chased foliage scrolls and lattice-work, marked on the back

The arms are those of Packington impaled by another, probably Redman.

Lot Essay

The salver, designed in George II French 'picturesque' fashion, evokes love's triumph and is engraved with an armorial cartouche wreathed by an antique-stippled border of flower-festooned and asymetrically scrolled reeds; while its scalloped and everted rim is antique-fretted in Vitruvian wave-scrolls that are also banded by foliated reeds.
