Lot Essay

The 'bronze' garniture, conceived in the French early l9th Century fashion as appropriate companions for a mantelpiece clock, evoke the pastoral life and Summer Season. A festive gardener with rustic pipes, and garden maid with hurdy gurdy dance, on altar-pedestals, whose bas-relief tablets comprise vine-wreathed and corn-enriched trophies of farm implements.
