Lot Essay

This was Brynner's best-known role; he played King Mongkut of Siam 4626 times onstage over the span of his career. He appeared in the original production of The King And I as well as subsequent touring productions and in the 1977 and 1985 Broadway revivals. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for the role, and is one of only seven people who have won both a Tony Award and an Academy Award for the same role.
