An Austrian stained and gilded pine and brass-mounted striking table clock
Johan Michael Hofer, Vienna. Late 18th Century
With brass handle and giltwood double cornucopia mount to the inverted bell top, gilt-brass flaming urn finials, the sides with engraved brass frets above glazed side panels, conforming frets to the giltwood framed front door, raised on part-fluted half feet, with giltwood sight ring to the brass dial with beaded and foliate spandrels to silvered and arcaded Roman and Arabic chapter ring, foliate scroll engraved centre with mock pendulum aperture (lacking rear plate), pierced and blued steel hands, the arch with further engraving and silvered convex disc signed Johnn/Mich: Hofer/Wienn, the one/two days movement with rectangular plates joined by four plain pillars, twin barrels with verge escapement, rack strike and trip repeat on bell, the back plate engraved with a cartouche of foliate scrolls; key, case key
