The case with brass handle to brass-bound inverted bell top flanked by stylised urn finials, with brass-lined front and rear doors, the front also with engraved brass frets, the sides with brass-lined roundel frets above brass-lined glass panels, with stepped and moulded base raised on bracket feet, stamped 1162 to the underside, the 15 cm. (6 in.) wide brass dial with foliate spandrels to a white enamel chapter disc, signed JAN. BERNARDIES. VRYTHOFF/HAGE, polished steel hands with central brass alarm-setting disc, strike/silent lever by 45, the painted and engraved moonphase above within a florally painted arch, the eight day movement secured with bolts through the lower pillars, with five pillars, twin line fusees, verge escapement, Dutch strike and trip repeat on two bells, with pull-wind alarm-work positioned on the back plate and sounding on the larger bell, the back plate engraved with foliate scrolls; winding key, case key

Johan Bernardus Vrythoff (Frijthoff) is recorded working from c.1750-c.1795. He was chairman and dean of the Clockmakers' Guild in The Hague 1773-1797. In 1764 he is known to have bought a house on the south side of Herderinneweg or t'Zand.
