Painted in lavender blue with a large central medallion depicting a Gothic vaulted church interior with a priest delivering a sermon on a pulpit in front of a large assistance of faithful listeners, surrounded by four plump winged putti with flowing garments and holding floral festoons, the top pierced with two and the lower part with one aperture for suspension (the upper left corner with a replacement fragment, the left lower corner with extremity lacking and connecting large chip, the right lower corner with repaired glaze fragments)

'The Sermon of Duifhuis' according to tradition represents Huibert Duifhuis, a formerly Catholic priest, preaching in the St. Jacobskerk in Utrecht, following his conversion to the Dutch Reformed Church in 1578.
A related plaque in the collection of the Fries Museum, Leeuwarden is illustrated by C.H. de Jonge, Oud Nederlandsche Majolica en Delftsch Aardewerk, Amsterdam, 1947, p. 187 ill. 162 and in Mededelingenblad Vrienden van de Nederlandse Ceramiek, nr.54, March 1969, p. 31 pl. 50. The same scene in mirror image appears on a charger dated 1744 in the Evenepoel Collection, Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Brussels, and illustrated by J. Helbig, Faiences Hollandaises, Volume I, Brussels, no date, p. 197 fig. 146.
