As determined by microanalysis, this mirror is made of spruce and basswood. Though these woods do occur occasionally in American furniture of the period, the label on the backboard refers to a gilder in Newcastle and suggests an English origin. See David L. Barquist, American Tables and Looking Glasses (New Haven, 1992), pp. 203, 295.
